January Wanderings
Think of the wonder of the first delicate flurries of snow, glittering icicles, candles and twinkling lights, and delicious baked treats.
Greetings Adventurer and Happy New Year!! 🥳✨
I hope you have been staying well and warm, and taking care of yourself. Now that the holiday season is drawing to a close, I am back with new music to share with you!
'Solstice Light' is a jaunty little tune with some Celtic influence. I've previously written multiple pieces about the quiet and melancholy of mid winter (see last year's Caverns of Ice), so it was a bit of a puzzle for me to find the energetic, lively points of the season to portray musically. Here's what I've come up with: Think of the wonder of the first delicate flurries of snow, glittering icicles, candles and twinkling lights, and delicious baked treats. Pizzicato strings, upper register piano, dulcimer, and the ubiquitous sleigh bells (obviously!) are great for representing that frosty sparkle. And like I've said before, the Mixolydian mode correlates with the element of fire to me, so adding in a bit of that flavor helps to bring an air of vitality. (Dorian is my water mode, which represents calm, and is used to that effect in Caverns of Ice). ❄️
Outside of YouTube, I've also made a Spotify playlist with some of my winter themed music here. Perfect background vibes for the snowbound mage's study session.. (when else will you find the time to read all those old spell tomes?!)
Like that mage, I've been spending a lot of time cozy indoors and making plans for next summer's ren faire season. I can't wait to get back out there and share another year of music, magic, and whimsy with you!
Until then, may the light of creativity guide you on your own quests. Talk to you again soon!!
