November Wanderings

Hello fellow adventurer! 🧙‍♀️ I hope you're doing well!

I've got some exciting things to share with you this month... so let's jump straight into the big news first!! A new, fantasy folk song is live on the Secret Door playlist (remember this is an early access playlist just for YOU! You can find it here: https://bit.ly/3tLyOcQ). Named 'Beneath The Earth', this piece should call to mind the stone halls of a dwarven city, precious gems glittering in lantern light, and ancient magic. I hope you will enjoy it! 🎵

While sitting at my keyboard, I played the main melody first (0:08 of the video). I wanted it to sound driving and strong to represent the energy of the stones, so it's set in 4/4 with a steady tempo. I also wanted it to sound 'wide' to call to mind huge caverns, and this is represented by the interval leap of a fifth that opens the melody. For the instrumentation, I focused on building a base of low register instruments to go with the theme of 'Beneath The Earth'. There's also high, sparkly sounds (like at 1:53) to characterize sparkling crystals and gems. Overall, this was very fun to write. 💎

As I was working on this song, it quickly changed from autumn to winter outside. 🌨 I took these photos in the woods just three mornings ago... and it hasn't stopped snowing since!

It looked so pretty I just had to put up some more winter themed decorations. ❄️
