June Wanderings
A fresh summer morning full of possibilities 🌱
Happy (almost) summer, Adventurers! 🧚♀️
It's time for some new music:
For this month, I decided to write something with orchestral woodwinds and strings. I love how pizzicato strings (those first few notes you hear) sound light and airy, perfect for representing a fresh summer morning full of possibilities. The sharp fourth in the harmony borrowed from the lydian scale gives it a slightly ethereal tone. The bassoon follows the strings as the first 'voice' and melody of the piece, asking a question that the flute and clarinet answer. Next you'll hear the sparkling piano arpeggios that add their own rhythmic energy, like sunlight dancing on dewy leaves. 🌱
In creating the video art I tried to capture those same visuals with watercolor paints and pencils. I got to use some of my favorite shades (hello sap green paint!) for a lush, slightly damp feeling. Speckles of brown paint are the rust and dirt you'd find in an oft-used greenhouse. The little creature in the flowerpot is inspired by the look of a classic mandrake, but he's much too kind to be one! He's probably just a bit mischievous :)
Since I won't see you again until next month, I hope you will have a wonderful summer solstice and enjoy the music!
Stay magical,
June 💜
