This month's song is The Wizard's Dream..

Widget the Wizard Owl is having quite a lively dream. What sort of magical adventure do you think he's having in the astral realm? 🔮

While writing, I had a lot of fun playing around with the melody of this song, which utilizes an inversion of the A section's main theme during the B section. This is done by changing the directions of the melody's form; for example, instead of taking a half step down first, we take a half step up in the inversion, and continue that way.

I felt having the main theme flipped upside down represented the parallel nature of the dream world our owl friend is currently exploring! Listen to the regular theme at 0:14, and then the flipped version at 0:33. It creates a slightly unsettling, mysterious sound. Perfect for the visions of a wizard.

The art was also quite fun to create! I got to reprise painting Widget, this time in a brand new (sleepy time) outfit. Purple is known as a mystical color so it seemed appropriate. Of course, he still keeps his characteristic gear on his hat! Here's a photo of the painting in progress, as I was working on the tree branch.
